Celtic Challenge 2009
Celtic Challenge 2009 / Ireland / June 2009
After holding on to the Celtic Challenge trophy for several years Wales reluctantly handed it over to the Republic of Ireland team after being beaten by an overall score of 81frames to 67 in Ireland.
This year for the first time the event was held between the under 14s and under 16s of both countries. This proved very popular with all the young players who rightfully see this type of event as a vital stage in their snooker development.
The under 16s Welsh team was to strong for their Irish counterparts and won convincingly with jak Jones outstanding, winning all his 5 matches.
The very young Welsh under 14s team, were beaten by a much more experienced Irish team. Welsh under 14s champion Calum Lloyd did very well winning 4 out of 5 matches. Suraj Singh of Cardiff, Still only 10 years old showed tremendous potential and is certainly one to watch next season.
