Welsh Under 16´s Season 2009/10

Welsh Under 16´s Championship / Morriston Snooker Club

Jamie Clarke (Llanelli) added the title of Welsh Under 16’s champion to the Under 19’s title he won last month. Jamie won this event without dropping a frame, beating fellow junior international Nathan Davenport (Cynwydd) 3 – 0 in the final.

It was a welcome return to form for Nathan who also reached the final without the loss of a frame. However he seemed to run out of steam in the final as the quick fire potting of Clarke proved a little too much for him.

Welsh Under 16´s Event 3 / Red Triangle Snooker Club

Jamie Clarke(Llanelli) showed his class at this level by winning in convincing fashion, although not before being given a fright by fellow junior international Nathan Davenport and then by Callum Lloyd in the semi final.

Rhys Thomas (Trethomas) had his best result at under 16s level by reaching the final with an excellent win over Tom Rees (the no. 1 seed ) and then a good semi final win over the more experienced Dale Hughes.

The final itself failed to light up the place as Jamie ran out an easy 3 – 0 winner. Rhys was a little unlucky to get caught in a foul and a miss situation which resulted in him conceding the 3rd frame and the match after failing to hit a not too difficult snooker several times.

Quarter Finals

Rhys Thomas 2 – 0 Tom Rees
Dale Hughes 2 – 1 Aled Evans
Jamie Clarke 2 – 1 Nathan Davenport
Callum Lloyd 2 – 0 Rhydian Stringer

Semi Finals

Welsh Under 16´s Event 1 / Red Triangle / 25 October 2009

All but one of last season's Under 16’s international team have moved up to Under 19’s level this year and this opened the door for Swansea's Tom Rees to storm through this first Under 16’s event of the new season with an outstanding display of attacking snooker.

He beat 3 Under 14’s internationals on his way to the final, although Cardiff's Ethan Chichester gave him a fright in round 2.

Pre tournament favourite Jamie Clarke came through to the final defeating fellow international Nathan Davenport along the way. Jamie seemed a little subdued in this event, never quite able to get going. This form continued in the final as Tom Rees secured a 3 - 0 win for his first junior ranking event success.

Quarter Finals

Jamie Clarke 2 - 0 Nathan Davenport
Dale Hughes 2 - 1 Rhys Thomas
Tom Rees 2 - 0 Ieuan Davies
Callum Lloyd 2 - 0 Aled Evans

Semi Finals

Jamie Clarke 2 - 0 Dale Hughes
Tom Rees 2 - 0 Callum Lloyd

Final

Tom Rees 3 - 0 Jamie Clarke

The Plate

Rhodri Garland (Pontypridd) won the plate defeating newcomer Travis Furnish 2 – 1 in a close, hard fought final. Travis was playing in his first ever snooker event and certainly looks like he could become quite a force.
