The Annual “Celtic Challenge” junior snooker event took place at the Terry Griffiths, Matchroom club in Llanelli on Saturday 26th June.

Duane Jones (Mountain Ash) jumped to the top of the Under 21’s ranking list by winning this the third event of the season.

Closing date for entries - Saturday 17th April | Qualifying date and venues - 24th April Morriston Snooker Club and 24th April Rileys, Wellington.

Jamie Clarke (Llanelli) added the title of Welsh Under 16’s champion to the Under 19’s title he won last month.

Jamie Clarke(Llanelli) showed his class at this level by winning in convincing fashion, although not before being given a fright by fellow junior international Nathan Davenport and then by Callum Lloyd in the semi final.

Jamie Clarke (Llanelli) is the new Welsh Under 19’s Champion after winning this event, his first junior ranking tournament win of the season.

Top ranked Under 14’s player Ieuan Davies (Swansea) showed his class by coming through to win this event. This was Ieuan's second under 14s triumph of the season.

The fierce rivalry between Jak and Duane Jones continued in this event, but this time it was Duane who came out on top winning the final by 3-0.

Please note that the Under 14's Event 3 has now been rearranged for Sunday 24th Jan at Red Triangle, Cross Keys.

Please note due to bad weather conditions we have had to postpone this weekends events, Under 14's Event 3 and Over 40's Event 4.

Duane Jones after a near miss in the last Under 19's event came good this time to win his first junior tournament of the season. In the final he overcame the challenge of fellow junior international Jamie Clarke by 3-1.

Jak Jones once again proved he is top dog in Welsh junior snooker at the moment by winning under 19s event 2. This make it 3 out of 3 for Jak so far this season.

Newcomer Sam Thomas (Barry) was the surprise package in this event. Playing in his first Welsh tournament he beat more experienced player's Rhys Thomas and Dale Hughes before meeting the in form Tom Rees in the semi final.

Many new faces were in this first under 14s. event but it was that old stalwart Ieuan Davies who showed his experience by coming through to the final, where he defeated fellow Under 14's. international Ryan Rowlands in a close match which ended 3 – 2.

Jak Jones made it two out of two wins in junior ranking events this season when he won this first Under 19's event to go with the Under 21's triumph he had last month.

All but one of last season's Under 16’s international team have moved up to Under 19’s level this year and this opened the door for Swansea's Tom Rees...

Jak Jones (Cwmbran) proved why he is considered to be Wales outstanding junior at the moment by winning this the first event of the new season.

Wales’s Senior Team finished third at the Home Internationals after losing two very close matches against the teams who finished above them.

Wales under 16s finished a creditable 2nd behind a very strong England team. Wales started with an excellent 16 - 2 win over Northern Ireland. In the second match, Tomos Vedmore was Wales saviour.

The first presentation night held by the W.B.S.A. went well despite several hiccups. President Darren Morgan opened the evening by welcoming everyone and went on to outline changes and innovations for the forthcoming season.

The forms are in PDF format which you should be able to download and print off with ease. The Calendar of Events in just being finalised and will be up by Tueday next week (1st September).

I have been President of the Welsh Billiards and Snooker Association for the past five years and during that time I have seen the Association steadily evolving and moving with the times. My fellow Officers and I put a lot of time and hard work attempting to make our Association the best in the world and I wish to thank them wholeheartedly for their efforts.

After holding on to the Celtic Challenge trophy for several years Wales reluctantly handed it over to the Republic of Ireland team after being beaten by an overall score of 81frames to 67 in Ireland.
