EBSA 2022 - Days 2 and 3

The Under 18s competition has concluded in Albania with success for Wales as Liam Davies secured the title against Leone Crowley of Ireland by 4 frames to 1.

Four Welsh players reached the knockout round. Zac Cosker faced #1 seed Liam Pullen and went down 3-0. Riley Powell turned on the magic in his last 32 match against Stephen Wardropper of Scotland, send Stephen crashing out 3-0. Oliver Briffett-Payne lost 3-1 in a very tigh match against Liam Graham of Scotland, whilst Liam Davies disposed of Erik Nagy of Hungary 3-0.

In the last 16, Riley faced WSF Junior Champion Anton Kazakov and acquitted himself very well, going down 3-1. Liam faced old foe Antoni Kowalski, losing the first frame but never looking back from that point.

The Quarter Finals pitched Liam against Velian Dimitrov of Bilgaria, a tie Liam won 4-2 to set up a semi-final with Anton Kazakov in a repeat of their WSF match, with Liam making ammends this time and taking the match 4-2.

The final was a hard fought affair with only two of the frames being what you would consider as one-sided. Despite losing the first frame, Liam bounced back with a nice 60 to level the match before taking the next 3 frames to secure the title. Congratulations Liam!

In the U21 competition, the group matches have almost concluded over two days. Zac Cosker has finished 3rd in Group A, which includes recent pro qualifier Julien Leclercq of Belgium. In Group B, Rhys Morgans will face another player who is already a professional for next season in Anton Kazakov, with the winner likely to take second place in the group. In Group F, Liam is back in action but currently only played a single match thanks to his U18 progress. Oliver has secured second place in Group L whilst Brad Ferguson seems to have just secured runners up spot thanks to the final results and a head-to-head win.
