Wales Win Celtic Challenge Trophy 2013

Wales Under 14's and Under 16's snooker teams defeated their Irish counter parts to retain the Celtic Challenge trophy in a superb match in Ireland.

Wales led going into the last but one session by ten frames but when the Irish Under 14's won that session 9-3 there were a few nervous moments for the Welsh supporters as Ireland put themselves right back in the game with one session to go.

The Irish Under 16's then showed their grit and determination as they won the last session agains tour Under 16's 7 -5.

With everything to play for our Under 14's led by Jordan Bowd (who only lost 2 of the 10 frames heplayed) produced a solid last session tomake sure the trophy came back across the Irish sea to Wales.

Team manager John Dobson said "I was very proud of our team, when the going got tough they showed real determination and spirit. The match was a pleasure to watch with player's from both countries playing some fine snooker in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and friendship".

  • Under 14s – Rep. Ireland 29 – Wales 31
  • Under 16s – Rep. Ireland 27 – Wales 33

Overall result Wales 64 – 56 Rep. Ireland
