Wales European Team Champions 2013

Wales won the European Team Championship for the fourth time in five years defeating a young but very talented team from Scotland by the narrowest of margins, eight frames to seven in the final at Bor, Serbia.

The three man side of John Bevan (Newport), David John (Bridgend) and Rhydian Richards (Merthyr) was the best in the event playing consistently well throughout. Rhydian Richards was the player of the tournament winning thirty one of his thirty five frames, a great achievement at this level.

There were not more than two frames between the teams during the final. With Scotland leading by seven frames to six and ahead in both the last two frames of the match things looked bleak for Wales. Richards summoned up vast reserves of experience to level the match at seven all and Bevan, in his first European event, showed great determination to win his final frame on the final pink.

The Wales Masters team of John Terry (Swansea) and Ian Sargeant (Bargoed) reached the semi-finals of their event.

Duane Jones (Mountain Ash) reached the semi-finals of the European under 21s Championship. Jamie Clarke (Llanelli), Sam Thomas (Barry) and Edward Topham (Cardiff) got through the round robins but came up against tough opposition at the knockout stage.
