The Celtic Challenge between Wales U/14 and U/16 and R.O. Ireland U/14 and U/16 took place at the Terry Griffiths Matchroom on Saturday the 21st June 2014.

Wales started well leading 14 - 10 at end of the first session. This continued in session two increasing the lead to 27 - 21. By the half way stage it was 38 - 34 with Wales still in front.

The second half didn't go so well. Ireland were  gradually clawing their way back, at the end of session four it was 50 - 46 Wales still holding the advantage. Session five, Ireland had reduced Wales lead to 61 - 59. It was now getting very tense going into the last session.  After leading throughout the tournament, Wales lost out in the final session going down 70 - 74 to Ireland.

It was an exciting tournament throughout. the Wales team played well under the circumstances. As our u/16 number two Jordan Bowd didn't turn up to play we had to put an u/14 player Jackson Page to play in his place and a local club member Rhys Morgan(age 11) to play in the u/14 team at short notice.

The outstanding  player of the tournament was Tyler Rees who didn't drop a frame all day and put in the highest brake of 60.

A most enjoyable day's competition between the "Celtic Countries" Has now been taking place for 16 years.

The Irish party approached the Tournament Director and said that they had really enjoyed the weekend and PJ Nolan the Irish Coach said he was looking forward to seeing the Welsh Teams in Ireland next year.

Here's to 2015.
