Under 18s - Event One

Just 14 players turned up for this inaugural event at Redz S.C. in Cwmbran. With a trip to Poland for the European under 18s championship on offer it was a surprisingly low entry.

Eventual winner Jackson Page was given a fright in his 1st round match against the very promising and very young Liam Davies who won the first frame and missed a long black which would have given him a 2-0 lead. From then on Jackson took control to run out a 3-1 winner. Liam compiled a nice 45 break during this match and is certainly one to watch for the future.

Tournament favourite Tyler Rees came through the top half of the draw without too much trouble although his semi final with Dylan Emery was closer than the 3-1 score line suggests.

The final saw two of Wales outstanding junior players both playing some fine attacking snooker.
After losing the first frame Tyler levelled at 1-1 with a superb 86 break which ended when he unluckily snookered himself on the last red with a century looking a certainty. The third frame also looked to be going Tyler’s way until he fouled the black with his waistcoat which allowed Jackson back in to take a close frame. The next frame was all Jackson as he opened with a nice 40 break followed shortly after by 39 which gave him frame and match.
