Welsh Championship - Semi Final 1 Result

The first Semi Final for this year's Welsh Championship took place at Merthyr Labour Club on Sunday. Alex Taubman faced former winner David John, under the watchful eye of Mel Griffiths.

The first four frames followed a familiar pattern and in each David opened up a lead before Alex was being left a decent opportunity to score, so David was thoroughly deserving of his 3-1 lead at that point. The fifth frame was a titanic battle, with a 23 shot safety exchange before Alex took the frame clearing green to pink to bring the score to 2-3 at the interval.

The sixth frame saw David get into his stride. A long red and position on the black following Alex's break off got him settled and in a few minutes he had compiled an 89 break before missing a straightforward red when the century was there for the taking. The next frame was nip and tuck, but again David took the crucial balls to open up a 3 frame cushion.

The eighth frame of the night turned out to be the last. David made a 45 from the break return and had three further reds/colours before clearing to the brown for a well deserved 6-2 win.
