IBSF World Mens and Masters Championships 2016

The IBSF World Championships started this weekend in Doha, with Welsh Snooker being represented by a magnificent 7 of Alex Taubman, Andrew Pagett, Jamie Clarke and Rhydian Richards in the Mens, Darren Morgan, Elfed Evans and Steven Thomas in the Masters.

Jamie made short work of his Group E Austrian opponent Oskar Charlesworth, winning 4-0 and rounding off with a decent 91. Rhydian has had a busy weekend, the only Welsh Mens player to have had two matches. In his first Group H match, Hong Kong's Ka Wai Cheung was quick off the mark taking the first frame comfortably, but after that the next 5 were all tight affairs, Rhydian eventually losing 2-4. Match two though saw Rhydian off to a flyer with an even 100 in the first frame and never looking troubled in his 4-0 win over Jyri Virtanen of Finland. In Group J, Andrew raced to a 2-0 lead before Indian Sundeep Gulati pulled a frame back. However, Pagett rose to the challenge and breaks of 74 and 131 saw him seal a 4-1 win. Alex faced Fillipino player Alvin Barbero and was soon 3-0 up before Alvin pegged one back. True to form though, Alex ran in a fine 91 to end the match 4-1.

Darren has had two Masters Group C matches so far, a 3-0 win over Nasser Bomejdad of Kuwait and, despite losing frame 1, a 3-1 victory over Farhad Sayfoo of Mauritius. Elfed has also had two matches in Group F, both 3-0 wins over Paul Smyth (Isle of Man) and A.Mohsin Al-Abdulrahman (Kuwait). Steve has yet play a match, but all that changes tomorrow.

Monday's match schedule is: -

Alex (10am, 7am UK), Andrew (4pm, 1pm UK), Jamie (4pm, 1pm UK), Steven (4pm, 1pm UK)
