Under 18s & Under 14s Event 3

Wexa Sports played host to our 3rd u14's and U18's events of the season.

In the U14's, the one last 16 round match saw Jay Vokes beat Rio Chung 2 v 1. Jay was not able to maintain his form however, losing 2 v 0 to William Gwinnell in the Quarter Finals. The other Quarter Final encounters saw Sion Stuart with victory over Spencer Collings with a 2 v 0 win, whilst Jack Taylor reeled off 2 quick frames in his 2 v 0 win over Aiden Collings. Joel Williams received a walkover win for his draw against Ryan Davies. Into the Semi Finals and Sion’s consistency in amongst the balls proved too good against William, with Sion winning the match 2 v 0, which included a 36 break in the first frame. In the other Semi Final, Jack Taylor’s steady scoring saw him come out on top with a 2 v 0 win against Joel.

Our final, on live stream, saw another strong performance from Sion taking the title with a well earned 2 v 0 win over Jack with a 30 break in the 2nd frame to seal the win. Well done to Sion, who did not drop a single frame in the event.

In the U18’s event, Jay Heard beat Joel Williams 3 v 0 and this was the same scoreline for Sion’s win over Aiden Collings and Ollie Briffett Payne opening his account by the same margin over Spencer. Our other Last 16 round match saw a great battle between Riley Powell and Zac Cosker, with Riley taking the win 3 v 1, which included a 43 break. Into the Quarter finals and Ollie’s experience proved too much for William with Ollie completing 3 quick frames including a brilliant 77 and a 40 break in the 3 v 0 win. Riley and Jack Taylor were locked at 1 a piece with Jack hitting his first 30+ break of the day, but Riley’s long potting and break building proved the difference in the end taking the win 3 v 1 with breaks of 62 in the 3rd and 72 in the 4th frame. Sion’s steady scoring saw him come through quite easily in the end with a 3 v 0 win over Rio Chung whilst the match of the round saw Logan Rawlings come back from 2 v 1 down to take the 4th frame on a re-spotted black to force a decider against Jay Heard and in the 5th Jay required a snooker with just pink and black left before playing the pink off 3 cushions only to find the middle pocket, handing the 3 v 2 win to Logan. In the Semi’s and Sion’s consistent form was too strong for Logan, with Sion taking their match 3 v 0, whilst in the other half of the draw, Ollie and Riley went the full 5 frames with Ollie taking the win 3 v 2 which included a superbly compiled break of 66.

In the final, also live streamed, saw the 2 strongest break builders of the day with a clash between Ollie and Sion and after the opening 2 frames the match was nicely balanced at 1 each with Sion having taken the first frame with a 33 break. Steady scoring in the 3rd by Ollie saw him take a 2 v 1 lead and then in the 4th, into the colours, Sion required snookers. Some excellent safety and attempts from Sion, but in the end Ollie floated the blue into the corner pocket dead weight to take the title 3 v 1.

Well done to Ollie for the win and hitting 6 breaks over 30 in the event.
